The pros of net neutrality is that every person searching on the web is treated the same way and that it "encourages creative expression" which is why why most people support it. The cons would be the price to pay for it and the limitation on who could use it. It creates a competitive market and companies would be able to pick and choose who gets the best access which could be unfair to people who can't afford it.
The Federal Communications Commission approved a set of rules in 2010 that kept companies that hold the keys to the web from playing favorites. A federal appeals court just ruled that the FCC doesn't have the right to enforce those rules. The court ruled that the internet isn't one of the utilities under current law, the FCC plans to appeal the ruling.
The net neutrality topic is related to freedom of speech because people can search for what they want without it people blocked or restricted but if there was no net neutrality then they couldn't. If there was a ban on net neutrality then people would be limited to what they could search, read, or type. Freedom of speech on the internet is very wide and should not be restricted as long as isn't not breaking any current laws that are in place and no new laws need to be created.
The new laws could affect me because I could possibly have to pay for some internet services that have been free. It would be a game of favorites and the free things would be much slower than the things you would have to pay for. This would create a discrimination to people with less money who want to use the internet but would not be able to afford it, the rich would be favored.
I support net neutrality because it guarantees freedom of speech on the internet and it creates an equal playing field for everyone and it gives smaller companies a chance to compete with bigger ones. It also creates a good service for people who would not be able to use it if it were not free. If there was no net neutrality there would be two different types of internet, the fast and smooth internet for important people and a slow bumpy one for everyone else.
